Asean Sports Day 2014

22 March 2014
Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex, Muscat

Asean Committe in Muscat (ACM) was established in January 2013. It is to promote the identity of ASEAN in the Sultanate of Oman. There are six ASEAN countries represented in ACM; Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philipines, Singapore and Thailand.

To uphold the spirit of ASEAN, ACM organises several yearly activities, and one of the activities is the   yearly ASEAN Sports Day. This year, ACM has appointed our Ambassador of Malaysia, His Excellency Dato' Rustam Yahya to be the Committee Chairman.

The 2014 ASEAN Sports Day was held yesterday. The event started at 8.30 am with the opening ceremony and welcoming remarks by His Excellency Dato' Rustam Yahya. The events kicked off with a Darts match participated by all the Ambassadors. It then followed by other matches, badminton, basketball, table tennis and futsal. As for the children, they too took part in colouring contest, musical chair and some fun indoor activities.

The venue was held at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex and each games took place at different halls,  played simultaneously as to ensure the whole function could be wrapped up by noon. Overall, our Malaysian team won the futsal games, congratulations!

The event ended with a closing and prize giving ceremony (and off course with a lucky draw).

It was a successful event as we were not just there to play games and support our team but also to get together with our neighbouring countries as 1 Asia.  As the lyric says in the ASEAN Anthem - "We dare to dream, we care to share. For it's the way of ASEAN" and yes that is us, Malaysian the truly Asia.

 THE ASEAN WAY
(ASEAN Anthem)

Raise our flag high,
sky high,
Embrace the pride in our heart,
ASEAN we are bonded as one,
Looking outward to the world.

For peace,
our goal from the very start,
And prosperity to last.

We dare to dream,
we care to share.
Together for ASEAN;

We dare to dream,
we care to share.
For it's the way of ASEAN.
